Into the forest I go…

“Into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soul.”- John Muir

One week, one month, six months, two years passed by working from home before I realized it. Georgia and Remington (my sweet sleepy pups) seem to be agreeable with this arrangement, but I’ve stared at the same walls for long enough! I needed to make my health a priority, so I chose an activity that I love, exploring the outdoors.

This week I’ve made an almost daily visit to the nearby Stone Mountain State Park. With its location convenient to I77 and unique granite dome feature, around 400,000 people visit the park each year from near and far. Park activities include camping, fishing, hiking, and horseback riding (bring your own).

Having lived in Wilkes County, NC for nearly 18 years, I’ve been to Stone Mountain State Park many times but have always followed the same, gorgeous, but well-traveled few miles of trail, up to the summit and waterfall. If you are new to the area or visiting these are can’t-miss views, but I’ve discovered some of the excellent less-traveled trails this week that rival these popular locations. If you are looking for a new path to follow, try out Wolf Rock, Cedar Rock, and Blackjack Ridge. You won’t be disappointed!
